What does Tilt and Turn mean

Tilt and turn is a style of window that has weather proofing and security features. The tilt and turn windows are practical and versatile. The tilt and turn windows have a hinge mechanism meaning they can be opened in two ways.  

The mechanisms of a Tilt and Turn Window

A Tilt and Turn window opens on 2 axis meaning when ventilation is required you turn the window 180 degrees and the mechanism will tilt the window open in towards the room providing air flow and fixed to the base. When you want to use the turn position you turn the handle 90 degrees and the window will turn  opening the window fully. Using the turning position is usually used for safety reasons, providing a means to escape a room in the event of a fire.

Tilt and Turn Gearbox

The Tilt and Turn Gearbox is located on the metal frame around the window. The tilt and turn Gearbox is the most important part of the tilt and turn window system and if this becomes broken the tilt and turn window system loses all function and will not operate at all.
